Angie Parker

With over fifteen years of makeup experience under her belt, Angie Parker has traveled the world for the sake of beauty. I sat down with Angie for a quick q + a the other day.

Beauty Bizz: Where are you from originally?

AP: The Isle of Man (a small island located between England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland in the Irish Sea. The island has its own government with its own parliament)

BB: What would you be doing if you weren't a makeup artist?

AP: I would be a therapist.

BB: Any guilty pleasures?

AP: Champagne!

BB: Is there a person whose makeup you would love to do but haven't gotten a chance to yet?

AP: I always wanted to work with Jessica Stam and I recently got to do that. Other than Jessica, I always wanted to work with Kate Moss.

BB: What are some things in your kit that you can't live without?

AP: I have a lot of products by Linda Cantello. They've unfortunately been discontinued so I try to squeeze out every drop. Also, NARS foundations- great colors and not too heavy- and also Christian Dior eyeshadow palettes.

BB: What are some of your own personal beauty rituals?

AP: As a makeup artist and a mother, I try to keep things simple. I always wash my face both morning and night and I always moisturize. I also drink a lot of water and eat well and I never walk out the door without a little bit of eyeliner, a little foundation, a little lipgloss, etc.

BB: What is one of your best memories from a job?

AP: Besides working with a lot of incredible people, my job also brings me to a lot of amazing places. One of my best memories is from two years ago when I went to Tanzania on a safari. We were staying in these incredible bungalows, showering outside with elephants walking around. It was just amazing with the bright pink sun and the elephants just walking around us.

BB: Is there any advice you would give a new makeup artist just starting out?

AP: I would tell them to assist as much as possible. To assist, learn as much as you can and really work every angle- and not party too hard!

THE KIT: REBECCA PLYMATE

A little peeksy-poo into the kit of Rebecca Plymate, hair and makeup extraordinaire. I've been finding that the common denominator in most kits are the Shu Uemura eyelash curlers. Must investigate. Also, Rose Bud salve is a must have. It's like fancy vaseline that smells nice. Another good alternative is Kiehl's lip balm # 1 and of course aquaphor! Aquaphor is the super hero of fancy vaselines. It's a good gloss, good cuticle ointment, good on dry ends, and even a nice glase on eyelids or cheekbones. careful not to layer it on too thick or you'll look like you stuck your face in a bucket of fried chicken. Ok, here's Rebecca's secret kit list:

1) Comodynes makeup removers

2)Estee Lauder Day wear plus Moisturizer

3) Rose Bud Salve

4) Makeup Forever face and body foundation

5) Laura Mercier secret camouflage

6) Laura Mercier secret brightening powder

7) Laura Mercier Translucent powder

8) Shu Uemura eye lash curler

9) YSL Volumizing Mascara

10) Nars Multiple in Copacabana

The Kit: Tamah K

KIT = the goodies that a hair or makeup artist lugs with them on jobs. You can recognize an artist's kit easily- it's the huge roller luggage they're dragging behind them at all times. Shell to a snail is a kit to a hair or makeup professional.

The stuff in an artist's kit are unique to them; it has been tweaked to their own specifications after years of testing and playing with tools and products. In this portion of the blog I will profile the kits of the industry's top artists to see what makes their kit tick.
Makeup artist Tamah K has worked with industry legend Sonia Kashuk, consulting on product development and doing makeup for packaging and Sonia Kashuk Target advertising. Tamah is an incredible talented makeup artist overall, but I would say her biggest strength would have to be the ability to create flawless skin.

Let's take a peek at some of the goodies that Tamah keeps on hand at all times....

1. crealine cleanser "Absolutely the BEST cleanser, makeup remover ever"

2. Weleda Calendula Baby Cream
3. Tweezer Man tweezers in assorted sizes. Every makeup artist really should have a good tweezer handy, groomed eyebrows are really important and often overlooked. Nothing ruins a photo faster than a model that has flawless makeup but out of control eyebrows.

4. Shu Uemura Deep Sea Water in Sage "Great scent, calming and an amazing refresher."

5. Q-tips "...in all shapes and sizes. A makeup artists best friend!"

6. Makeup Forever grease paint box "Literally can not leave home with out it."

7. Laura Mercier secret camoflage "The best consistency for even coverage."

8. Ponds exfoliating makeup remover wipes "Just my personal fave, love the weight of them."

9. Jao Hand Sanitizer "It has lavender extract in it so it actually smells really good!"

10. LARA bars "For instant energy on long shoot days."
